Every day is an adventure, some say. Others say each day brings another set of challenges. I say every new day is an opportunity to celebrate, commiserate, and conversate—with a pint. Or two.
My name is Clint, and I’m an … advocate for beer. Beer when your team is playing on television. Beer when that team is getting whupped. When it’s kicking ass. When you’re at that team’s ballpark and can afford it.
Beer when life gives you a big bowl of suck. Beer when there’s drama. When someone smashes your car’s window with a boulder. When you have to put your pet to sleep. When something goes awry in your genes, or in those of a loved one.
Beer when you’re somewhere beer isn’t allowed. Beer on the trail. At the beach. In the shower, where you dream of the beach.
Beer to celebrate. When you get married. When happy hour is the sweetest hour of the week. When the kids go to bed. When the leaves change and the air goes cool. When you finally make that last payment. When the memory of your favorite band killing a set back in 1990 washes over you for no apparent reason. After you finally get a good workout again. And when you just don’t have energy for the gym.
Beer for beer’s sake.
There’s rarely a bad time—or bad excuse—for a beer. Even if it’s mass-produced crap beer at the department team-building bowling outing. And usually, enjoying a beer with a friend brings you, compadre, and beer even closer.
When do I enjoy beer? I’ll try to keep you posted. Why do I deserve two pints today? Well, I’ll tell you. Who’s having a beer with me? Probably my wife, as I’m lucky like that. (I actually do have a few other friends.) What’s on my lupulin-coddled mind? You’ll see.
I’ll imbibe and write responsibly. You do the same.
Hi, I stumbled across your blog while searching for something related to beer on Google. Despite your apparently being a fan of the wretched Dodgers (I live in San Francisco and enjoy the Giants but am primarily a Mets fan), I enjoyed your blog entries. Keep enjoying beer, and Happy New Year.
Clint,
I wanted to send you information on an upcoming beer event in the Seattle area and see if you could perhaps let you blog readers know about it.
The 4th annual ExBEERience will be held on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Redhook Brewing Company in Woodinville from noon to 4 PM. The event, sponsored by the Cascade Brewers Guild home brewing club, will feature commercial brewers, home brew samples, food, and the recognition of award winners from both the 2010 Cascade Brewers Cup home brewing competition and the annual awards from the Washington Homebrewers Association. Brewers scheduled to pour at the event are Alaskan Brewing, Baron/3 Skulls, Big Al, Black Raven, Firestone Walker, Fremont Brewing, Georgetown, Issaquah Brewhouse, Kona, Lazy Boy, Odin, Powerhouse, Redhook, Trade Route and Widmer. Proceeds benefit Childhaven, a non-profit to benefit abused and neglected children.
Entry is $20 in advance, $25 at the door and includes entry, lunch and 9 beer tokens. Additional tokens available to purchase on site; ATM available. Advance tickets are available at Brown Paper Tickets, http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/98927.
I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have.
Regards,
Jeff Rea
Cascade Brewers Guild
Hi Jeff,
I’m a bum. My apologies for not posting your comment, replying to it, or attending the ExBEERience. Hope it went well! I’ve been off the blog for many, many months. Hoping to change that.
I haven’t refrained from enjoying beer in the meantime, of course.
Clint
